I just presented the giant pyramid of application development on CodeBits in lisbon a few days ago.
The main theme of the talk was to observe the evolution of all the dozens of layers that nowadays stand in-between the ‘application’ and the ‘hardware’ on a given device and reasons why it evolved that way.
It then moves into the current top-layer: Web application development based on the webbrowser and the function we see Ajax.org technologies have in making development easier.
